Clarke Energy will be exhibiting at Renewable Energy India Expo 2023 under Bio-Energy Pavilion from 4th to 6th October 2023.
Over the next twenty years, India is expected to experience the greatest rise in energy demand compared to any other country due to its huge growth needs. By the year 2050, India’s share of global energy consumption will double from 7 per cent to 14 per cent. Additionally, India’s demand for oil and gas is anticipated to triple by 2050, with gas consumption growing threefold by 2030.
Biogas is a mixture of methane, CO2 and small quantities of other gases produced by anaerobic digestion of organic matter in an oxygen-free environment. The precise composition of biogas depends on the type of feedstock and the production pathway.
Unlike wind and solar PV, biogas-based power plants can operate in a flexible manner and so provide balancing and other ancillary services to the electricity network. The economic case for biogas co‑generation is stronger than for an electricity-only plant. This is because co‑generation can provide a higher level of energy efficiency, with around 35% of the energy from biogas used to generate electricity and an additional 40-50% of the waste heat put to productive use. Achieving net zero emissions requires more than just offering renewable electricity; renewable gases and liquids are equally important. Compressed biogas (CBG), which can be integrated into the existing gas infrastructure, provides the easiest route to decarbonizing natural gas applications. The use of biomethane reduces the total cost of ownership of the energy system as the infrastructure for distribution and usage is already in place. Additionally, anaerobic digestion produces not only biogas, but also digestate that can be utilized as a renewable biofertilizer locally, either directly or after upgrading. The CO2 that needs to be separated from the biogas to obtain biomethane can also be valued as a co-product.
