Clarke Energy Announces Strategic Partnership with Strike Energy in Australia

Clarke Energy is thrilled to announce a significant partnership with Strike Energy, involving a $48.5 million contract to supply and commission twenty (20) 4.5 MW INNIO Jenbacher gas reciprocating engines for the South Erregulla peaking gas power plant.

The South Erregulla project aims to develop an 85 MW peaking gas power plant, part of the broader South Erregulla gas field development. Clarke Energy’s provision of Jenbacher gas engines, renowned for their higher efficiencies and quicker start-up times compared to turbine technology, aligns perfectly with the peaking role of the power plant. These engines will play a crucial part in meeting the project’s energy demands, ensuring reliable and responsive power generation.

Jenbacher reciprocating gas engines are a proven conventional technology, boasting over 1 GW of generation in Australia alone. In Western Australia, Jenbacher gas engines currently generate more than 358 MW of power from 128 engines in operation.

The selection of these engines for the South Erregulla project highlights their superior performance and reliability.

The fixed price contract includes procurement and commissioning services, ensuring that the project stays within Strike’s mid-case capital estimates.

Execution of this contract secures Strike’s fabrication slots in the Jenbacher factory and delivery times, crucial for meeting the October 2026 start-up date.

This project is particularly noteworthy as it represents what is believed to be Australia’s first gas reciprocating engine peaking gas power station. Clarke Energy is proud to deliver the next generation of power solutions, supporting the roll-out of renewables and managing the increased intermittency of the grid as the energy transition takes shape.

This strategic partnership not only reinforces Clarke Energy’s position as a leader in the power solutions industry but also contributes significantly to the energy sector’s transition towards more efficient and responsive power generation technologies.

The Jenbacher engines’ higher efficiencies and quick response times make them ideal for the peaking role, supporting both current and future energy needs.

Greg Columbus, Clarke Energy Main Board Director, Australasia, states:

“This exciting collaboration underscores Clarke Energy’s commitment to delivering efficient and reliable power solutions to support Strike Energy’s exciting project and strategic business needs. By leveraging advanced Jenbacher technology, this project is set to enhance energy production efficiency and responsiveness, contributing to a more sustainable and reliable energy future for Australia.”
