Nasir Float Glass Industries Increases Cost Savings With Reliable Power Solution

The glass industry in Bangladesh is relatively small compared to other manufacturing sectors but has been experiencing growth in recent years. The demand for glass in Bangladesh comes from various sectors such as construction, automotive, packaging, and consumer goods. The industry imports some types of specialty glass and high-end products that are not manufactured domestically. However, local production is increasing to meet domestic demand, and some companies are also exploring export opportunities for certain types of glass products.

Overall, while the glass industry in Bangladesh is growing, it faces both opportunities and challenges typical of emerging manufacturing sectors in developing countries. As demand for construction and consumer goods continues to rise, the industry is expected to expand further, provided it can address infrastructure needs and maintain competitive production costs.

Nasir Float Glass Industries Limited (NFGIL) is a multi-functional float glass complex set up at Dubail, Delduar, Natiapara, Tangail, Bangladesh. The glass manufacturer needed a reliable gas generator able to run continuously on a 24/7 basis. Additionally, NFGIL required the gas gensets to be efficient, helping them reduce their production cost and rendering significant environmental benefits.

Upon the completion of the bidding process for their requirement of 7.5MW power plant at their manufacturing unit in Dubail, Clarke Energy were selected to complete the project’s installation due to the various working options offered, the generator’s availability, engineering capabilities, as well as the better lead time. Clarke Energy supplied INNIO’s Jenbacher lean burn gas genset model 5 x JGS 420 GS NL, 11kV, each giving an output of 1.5MW, well equipped with remote monitoring controls helping them reduce labour and maintenance costs. The JGS 420 gas generator’s increased power density covered the manufacturing unit’s yearly electrical requirements. Use of high efficiency Jenbacher gas genset model JGS 420 has helped NFGIL save on input costs as the second source of energy in glass industry is electricity, which accounts for around 25% of the energy consumption. The gensets run in island/isolated mode with the plant designed for the generating sets to be grid synchronized helping NFGIL maximize the power output.

Implementation of cogeneration system has helped our manufacturing unit comply with energy efficiency regulations and emission standards. This project demonstrates our Group’s commitment to sustainability and responsible energy use”.
