From the concept of the project NGAIL specified a reliable economical and continuous power supply. NGAIL selected GE Jenbacher Type-6 generating module to meet their captive heat and power requirements. The waste heat of the engine is used for hot air generation, reducing the natural gas consumption in the glass furnace, and for air conditioning purposes through vapour absorption chillers. This has the added benefit of helping reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
After a number of extremely satisfied years of reliability and performance of the CHP module, NGAIL decided to install two more generating sets (1 X JGS 320 GS NL and 1 X JGS 316 GS NL) to meet their additional electrical load after the plant was expanded.
All three GE Jenbacher gas engines operate in parallel and supply over 3MW of electrical power to the manufacturing plant.
