Mount Isa, Temporary Power Solution, Australia
Clarke Energy has been awarded the contract by Xstrata Copper to provide 5MWe of power generated by the high-efficiency, containerised GE Jenbacher reciprocating gas engines.
This new site consists of 5 portable ‘plug-and-play’ containerised GE Jenbacher J320 generator sets which generate nominal 1MWe electrical output each at 415V with step up transformers to 11kV. All five engines are operating on natural gas and exporting electricity to grid as per Xstrata Copper’s request. This temporary power solution is provided to Xstrata to augment power supply while Clarke Energy is building the extension to the existing X41 Power Station.
Back in 2007, Clarke Energy Australia was contracted to undertake the ‘turn-key’ design, supply, construction and commissioning of the 33MWe X41 power station utilising the high efficient GE Jenbacher J620 3MWe engines. Since the completion and hand-over of the power station, Clarke Energy has been operating and maintaining the station as part of a 15-year operation and maintenance contract.
Clarke Energy has established itself as ‘gas-to-energy’ specialist for customers who wish to develop and construct power stations of this type.
