Reports suggest that Bangladesh is one of the fastest growing economies in South Asia. The Government of Bangladesh now aims to achieve the status of a “middle income country” by 2021. It is well known that energy is a key indicator of a developing nation’s overall industrial as well as economic and social development. The performance of Bangladesh’s power sector in the last five years has been impressive due to the efforts of the policy makers, support from developing partners and effective project implementation by public and private developers. Natural gas continues to dominate, meeting 56% of domestic energy demand. However, with industries incurring higher cost of natural gas, the focus is now on “Do more with less”.
INNIO’s myPlant APM is an original equipment manufacturer (OEM)-diagnostic, industrial Internet of Things solution for reciprocating engines and generators, which will provide industries with a digital toolset to manage its equipment fleet. It is aimed at improving uptime and efficiency, reducing life cycle costs and driving operating performance and profitability.
Also, with growth in economy over the last few years, Bangladesh has also witnessed great influx of village workforce to cities. Under the said circumstances, for sustainable MSW management, population and economy growth should be constructively transformed, because they are the major drivers of waste generation. Around the world to ensure sustainable MSW management, four options are now considered, such as biological treatment, landfilling with energy recovery, recycling and thermal treatment, each having its own advantages and disadvantages. Waste-to-energy for MSW management in Bangladesh can be a viable option for alternative and renewable electricity generation. Such strategy will also avoid significant GHG emissions by replacing the equivalent fossil fuels electricity. Moreover, deploying WtE strategy will help Bangladesh to move towards zero waste society and to adopt circular economy principle at the national level.
