Job Title: HV Engineer
Reports to: Electrical Engineering Manager
Function: Engineering
Location: Knowsley with UK and Overseas travel as required
Job Purpose: The HV Engineer will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and overseeing the installation and commissioning of HV equipment in energy projects. The role will involve ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of HV systems across various power generation assets.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Design and Engineering

  • Design and develop high voltage electrical systems for power generation projects.
  • Prepare technical specifications, single line diagrams (SLDs), and layouts for HV infrastructure.
  • Oversee the integration of HV systems with low voltage and auxiliary systems.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, including grid codes and safety protocols.

Project Management:

  • Lead and manage HV projects from conception to completion, including installation, testing, and commissioning of HV systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineers, project managers, and field technicians, to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance during construction and installation phases, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards.

Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure all HV systems are compliant with national and international safety standards and electrical regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety protocols to mitigate hazards associated with high voltage systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records of HV installations, modifications, and maintenance activities.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and best practices in HV engineering and energy systems.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to enhance the efficiency, safety, and reliability of HV systems within Clarke Energy’s portfolio.

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Electrical Engineer
  • Minimum of 10 years documented experience in HV engineering, preferably within the energy and power generation sectors with a NERS accredited organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of HV systems, including transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and cabling.
  • Experience in the design, installation, and commissioning of HV infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes, safety standards, and grid compliance requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with fault finding, testing, and maintenance of HV equipment.
  • Can carry out Power System studies using software and produce reports.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, electrical design software, and other relevant engineering tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments. 

Desirable

  • Experience with power generation/CHP/BESS/Hydrogen is an advantage.
