In engleza: Clarke Energy Powers Ken’s Bore Mining Hub with INNIO’s Jenbacher Technology

Clarke Energy is proud to announce the completion of its latest collaboration with Mineral Resources Limited (MinRes) for the Ken’s Bore Power Station, approximately 200kms southwest of Karratha.

Part of the Ashburton Project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, this project underscores Clarke Energy’s expertise in delivering high-performance, tailored power solutions for the mining sector.

Supporting MinRes’ Ashburton Project

Central to the Ashburton Project which includes a Port Storage and Unloading Facility and a mining hub, is the Ken’s Bore mine, which is expected to produce 35 million tonnes of iron ore annually.

Clarke Energy has designed, engineered, and supplied state-of-the-art power station equipment, including eight (8) INNIO Jenbacher J620 GS-N.L (3.3Mw) gas engine generators, each designed to handle the high-load transients typical of mining operations; the ideal solution for powering options while enhancing energy efficiency and reliability.

The station will utilise gas from a newly constructed pipeline interconnected with the Goldfields Gas Pipeline, ensuring a reliable and efficient energy supply to support mining activities.

Jenbacher Technology: The Ideal Choice for Mining

The Jenbacher J620 gas engines were selected for their unmatched reliability, high efficiency, and proven performance in remote mining environments. With over 90+ similar units currently operating across Western Australia, the Series 6 generators have become the preferred market choice for powering mining hubs.

Future-proofed for hydrogen fuel, the engines can operate with up to 25% hydrogen blending and are upgradeable to 100% hydrogen operation, aligning with MinRes’ decarbonisation goals.

Enhancing Operational Excellence

The completion of the Ken’s Bore Power Station marks another significant milestone in Clarke Energy’s growing partnership with MinRes.

Greg Columbus, Clarke Energy’s Main Board Director and Managing Director, remarked,
“It’s an honour to support MinRes with this critical infrastructure project. The trust placed in our in-house experience and expertise, along with Jenbacher gas engine technology to deliver our proven tailored power station solutions reaffirms our commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable energy for remote mining applications.”

With construction now complete, the Ken’s Bore Power Station has been officially handed over for commissioning. Clarke Energy’s specialist design engineers and in-house Jenbacher factory-certified commissioning technicians are working on-site to bring the station into full operation, ensuring all systems are seamlessly integrated and ready for reliable performance.

As commissioning progresses, Clarke Energy remains committed to supporting MinRes by embedding experienced factory-certified service technicians to collaborate closely with the MinRes team on-site. This partnership not only powers the mine’s innovative operations but also reinforces a shared commitment to delivering sustainable and dependable energy solutions tailored to the needs of the mining sector.
