The PowerGen India Exhibition 2024, held in Dwarka, New Delhi from 4 – 6 September, was a landmark event that showcased the latest innovations and trends in the power generation sector. This year’s exhibition not only highlighted advancements in technology but also underscored the industry’s commitment to sustainability and efficiency. One of the standout features of PowerGen India 2024 was the impressive array of technological innovations on display. Companies presented solutions in areas such as Renewable Energy, and Decarbonization Technologies.
The key issues at PowerGen India this year centered around how India can adapt to climate change and actively protect the environment. When it comes to pollution, deteriorating air quality, communities rely on effective technological solutions. The push towards reducing carbon emissions was evident with our offices in India presenting use of biogas and hydrogen for power generation, aimed at minimizing the environmental impact of traditional power generation. In the future, natural gas / hydrogen blends, synthetic fuels such as methanol, and 100% hydrogen – in addition to biogas – could drive gas engines and thus accelerate the transformation from fossil to renewable energy sources.

“Natural gas is one of the most energy-dense fossil fuels, meaning it contains a large amount of energy per unit of volume. This makes it an efficient fuel for power generation, as a relatively small amount of natural gas can produce significant electricity. Compared to coal and oil, natural gas is considered a relatively clean-burning fossil fuel as it emits fewer greenhouse gases and pollutants when burned. This makes it a favoured option for electricity generation, particularly as a transitional fuel towards more sustainable energy sources. In my opinion, today, when natural gas utilization and pricing policy limits its use in power generation industry sector, rendering no positive spark spread, the type test approvals, and conformity of production norms as levied by CPCB for gas engines having capacity </= 800kWm would be more relevant for base load application and not when the gas engines are being used as emergency/standby source of power. When the sun is not shining, or the wind is not blowing, natural gas can still help.”
