Clarke Energy has secured a major contract with one of the UK’s leading landfill site operators, Biffa Waste Services, to supply Jenbacher gas engines to numerous sites throughout the country. Knowsley-based Clarke Energy, the UK’s exclusive distributor of Jenbacher engines, is to supply 10 Jenbacher 320 model containerised landfill sets, delivering a total generating capacity of 10MW across seven separate sites in Warwickshire (x2),  Staffordshire , Surrey , Kent,  Sussex and Merthyr Tydfil.
These purpose-designed engines, capable of automatically handling significant variations in landfill gas methane levels, have consistently proved themselves in this type of constant duty base load operation and are fast becoming the preferred choice in many landfill gas applications. Not only is Biffa Waste Services a new customer, but this contract also represents the first NFFO5 order which Clarke Energy has been involved in. The company has, however, already taken over 85% of landfill site orders placed under NFFO4, and virtually all of the late orders of the NFFO3 tranche.
Biffa Waste Services commented, “We’ve decided to specify Clarke Energy on our latest series of landfill gas projects because technically, and in terms of value for money, the Jenbacher engines together with Clarke Energy’s enviable service reputation offered the best overall package. We expect the first generation to start in September with the project phased in across all seven sites over the following 12 months.
