The Nigg Waste Water Treatment Site expanded its heat and energy recovery programme to include an additional GE Jenbacher containerised J316 combined heat and power (CHP) module with steam boiler. Clarke Energy had originally installed a GE Jenbacher J320 CHP module and an 846kg/hr boiler, in 2001. The new engine and boiler interface directly with the existing installation to fulfil the additional requirements from the expanded treatment works.
Clarke Energy took on the design and implementation of the new project to work within restricted space parameters as part of the growth of the site. The new boiler is rated at 620kg/hr @ 485OC utilising the exhaust gases from the engine. The engine low temperature hot water is also utilised on site, offering 475kW of thermal energy for use with the boilers and site anaerobic digesters.
Clarke Energy has been responsible for the long term operation and maintenance of the installation and will continue to offer the same level of support for the new engine.
