Energy solutions provider Zenith Energy have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Dacian Gold to deliver a 17MW gas fired power station at Mt Morgans Gold Project (MMGP) in Western Australia. Fuel gas for the power station will be delivered via a new four kilometer gas pipeline lateral supplied by APA Group. Under the terms of the PPA, Zenith Energy will construct the power station to service the power needs of Dacian Gold’s Mt Morgan Gold Project located 20km west of Laverton, and approximately 750km northeast of Perth in Western Australia.
The new gold mining operation which is currently under construction will be capable of processing 2.5 million tonnes of ore per annum. The power station is scheduled to commence operation in early 2018 for an initial 8 year term with an option to extend for a further term of three years. Clarke Energy will supply, deliver and commission 5 of GE’s Jenbacher high efficiency J620 gas engine generators each with a generating capacity of 3,352kWe and a nominal electrical efficiency of 44.6% to Zenith Energy for this project.
Clarke Energy’s Western Australia Sales Manager, Rob Adams commented; “This is a great win for Zenith Energy in the Western Australian Power market. We look forward to supporting the Jenbacher product throughout the tenure of the PPA ensuring another successful power project for a remote gold mining operation.”
GE’s Jenbacher engines were selected by Zenith Energy based on a combination of high efficiency, low harmonic power disturbance and superior voltage and frequency stability during transient load events.
