Clarke Energy Contributes to Sustainable Waste Management with Jenbacher J320 at AB Lime Landfill in New Zealand

Clarke Energy is excited to announce a new partnership with AB Lime Landfill, located approx. 3 km from Winton, New Zealand, to supply a INNIO Jenbacher J320 containerised unit for their landfill gas-to-energy project.

This project represents a key step in AB Lime’s efforts to turn landfill gas into renewable electricity, supporting both their sustainability goals and the broader renewable energy initiatives in the region.

The AB Lime Landfill, situated near Winton, is one of the largest waste management facilities in Southland. Known for its commitment to sustainability, AB Lime focuses on reducing emissions by capturing landfill gas, which will now be converted into clean energy through the Jenbacher J320 unit.

Value of the Partnership

Uzma Hayat, Regional Sales Manager – New Zealand, Clarke Energy, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating: “We are excited to partner with AB Lime on this important renewable energy project”.

The Jenbacher J320 engine is well-regarded for its efficiency and reliability, making it ideal for generating energy from landfill gas.

Hayat noted, “The unit will capture landfill gas and convert it into around 1 MW of renewable electricity, which will benefit the local community through grid supply. This initiative aligns perfectly with AB Lime’s objective to lessen their environmental footprint while advancing regional renewable energy goals, contributing to sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”

Clarke Energy’s Involvement

The project highlights Clarke Energy’s expertise in landfill gas-to-energy solutions, strengthening our portfolio of renewable energy projects. It also marks an important step in expanding Clarke Energy’s presence in New Zealand, a region increasingly focused on sustainable energy practices.

Collaborating closely with AB Lime, the team customised the Jenbacher J320 unit to meet the specific needs of the landfill project, showcasing their technical capabilities and ability to deliver tailored, efficient energy solutions.

Community and Environmental Impact

The Jenbacher J320 will provide reliable renewable energy generation to support the local grid, benefiting the community while reinforcing AB Lime’s leadership in sustainability. The energy produced will also reduce reliance on non-renewable electricity and contribute to long-term cost savings.

By capturing landfill gas and converting it into renewable energy, this project significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to New Zealand’s environmental targets.
