Overview
Having already experienced the benefits of two Co-Energy CHP units, in 2015 MCPHS continued searching for energy efficiency improvements in their academic and dormitory buildings. MCPHS chose to partner once again with Co-Energy America to develop a CHP solution.
The MCPHS facility in downtown Worcester is comprised of interconnected buildings on one city block. Based on an electrical and thermal assessment of the buildings, Co-Energy America installed an Amerigen 150kW CHP unit on the roof in a sound attenuated container. The unit provides over 1,000,000 kWh of onsite electricity and the heat is piped to three different boiler rooms over two different buildings. The project was also challenging in that it required a structural steel platform and coordinated crane and rigging to place the unit on the 11 story roof.
